20th September 2025
The Irish Freedom Party (IFP) wishes to clarify that a meeting held today, 20 September, in Wynn’s Hotel by former president Hermann Kelly and Patrice Johnson was not a legitimate Ard Fheis of the party.
The official Ard Fheis of 2025 took place in April. At that meeting, a motion to remove Hermann Kelly as president was unanimously carried, following an online vote of party members in which 63% voted in favour of his removal. Claims made by Mr. Kelly that a two-thirds majority was required are false. The party constitution contains no such provision.
Under the constitution, the approval of the Ard Comhairle is required for both an Ard Fheis and an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM). No such approval was granted for the gathering held today.
It is important to note that 90% of party members recently voted in favour of a motion to work towards a united political movement with The Irish People and Mr. Derek Blighe. The actions of Mr. Kelly and Ms. Johnson appear designed to frustrate this democratic decision and obstruct the clear will of the membership.
Attendance at today’s meeting numbered just 12 individuals, several of whom were present solely to inform others that the event was not sanctioned.
In light of these developments, the party will take the necessary steps to examine whether both Hermann Kelly and Patrice Johnson are to be removed from all involvement in the Irish Freedom Party.
SIGNED – The Ard Chomhairle of the Irish Freedom Party
